Welcome to the toutle lake elementary

October 22, 2021

Parents and Guardians:

Starting next week, students in grades 4-6 will begin taking the Smarter Balanced assessments in math and English language arts. Additionally, students in grade 6 will also take the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS).

Last spring’s Smarter Balanced and WCAS testing were postponed to fall as we prioritized critical in-person instruction time for the benefit of students, families, and district staff. The results from these tests will give a more accurate picture of whether students are on track to be ready for college or career after high school than our state’s previous tests.

Students will take the assessments online. Smarter Balanced and WCAS tests were shortened this fall to ensure that students and teachers would have as much time as possible at the start of the 2021–22 school year to establish relationships, routines, and activities. Grades 4-6 at TLE are scheduled to take the assessments on Thursday, October 28 (English language arts) and Thursday, November 4 (Math). Additionally, the 6th grade will take the WCAS (Science) on November 9.

Thank you for continuing to work with us to make sure your child is successful. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to better support your child. We want your child to leave us with a solid foundation of skills and a future full of opportunities. Please don’t hesitate to call or email if you have questions about state assessments.

Healthy Youth Survey

It is time for the Healthy Youth Survey, this will take place in 1st period of one day between October 12th and the 19th.

The Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) is a collaborative effort of the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Department of Health, the Health Care Authority - Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery, and the Liquor and Cannabis Board. The Healthy Youth Survey provides important survey results about the health of adolescents in Washington. County prevention coordinators, community mobilization coalitions, community public health and safety networks, and others use this information to guide policy and programs that serve youth. The Survey is confidential and no names are used. If you would like to have your child opt-out from taking the survey, please see Mrs. Cooper in the elementary office or Mrs. Marcil in the High School office.

If you have any questions about the Survey, please contact Leann Couch @ 360 274 6182 Extension 5350.
